Environmental

The health, comfort, and learning environment of students and staff are important aspects of the Des Moines Public Schools mission. Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a critical component of safe, superior schools. District IAQ goals are as follows:

  1. Minimize indoor air pollutants to reduce the likelihood of health problems including asthma, respiratory tract infections and allergic reactions.
  2. Control temperature, humidity, and ventilation at levels conducive to effective teaching and learning.
  3. Prevent school closures, minimize liability risks, and create a climate for positive relationships among parents, teachers, and administrators.

To meet these goals, DMPS has implemented an IAQ Management Plan that will monitor and improve the quality of air in school buildings. You may read the entire plan here.
