The Office of Talent & Personnel supports the district’s nearly 5,000 employees. This includes the recruitment and retention of employees in several different employment categories, including teachers, administrators, support staff, bus drivers, and more. As a major employer, Des Moines Public Schools is always looking for talented and committed employees.

As the largest provider of public education in Iowa and one of the state’s major employers, Des Moines Public Schools recently made an organizational change to provide better support and develop opportunities for its 5,000 employees. The school district merged the Human Resources and Talent Support offices to form a new department to enhance the learning, thriving and belonging of current and future employees. 

The Office of Talent & Personnel combines traditional human resource services with an enhanced focus on professional development, coaching and transformational leadership. One benefit of this change will be to support the growth of in-house talent and more diverse leadership to represent and serve the school district’s diverse student body.
