Vision Services

Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) provide direct and/or consultative special education services specific to vision loss. In addition to Braille instruction, TVIs provide instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum.

Iowa Braille School – What is the Expanded Core Curriculum?

The Expanded Core Curriculum Nine Unique Educational Needs for Students with Visual Impairments. The Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) is the body of knowledge and skills that are needed by students with visual impairments due to their unique disability-specific needs.

Orientation and Mobility (O&M) is an important component in the spectrum of services provided to students with visual impairments. Orientation and mobility specialists provide instruction to students whose visual impairment has adversely affected their ability to travel. It is a necessary skill in the achievement of independence.
