The following are key dates in the process to fill the District 1 vacancy on the Des Moines School Board:

June 3
Heather Anderson Announces pending resignation effective July 31, 2020

June 8
School Board discusses and reaches consensus on appointment process and timeline

June 10 to June 24
Letters of Interest and Resumes may be submitted by individuals interested in filling the vacancy

June 20
“How the School Board Works” virtual workshop – 9:00 to 11:00 AM

June 24
Noon deadline to submit Letters of Interest and Resumes

June 26
All applicants will be contacted regarding status by this date with at least 5 finalists invited to interview with the School Board

June 29 (and possibly June 30)
Public interviews of candidate finalists beginning at 5:30 PM. in the Multi-Purpose Room at Central Campus

July 1
School Board meets at 5:30 PM to discuss and determine appointment

July 3
Interviewed finalists notified by this date

July 31
Heather Anderson’s resignation from District 1 seat effective.

August 8
Appointed District 1 member sworn in at a Special School Board meeting, regular board meeting to follow

August 8, 2020 – November 1, 2021
Period of service for newly appointed District 1 School Board member

November 2, 2021
School Board Elections. The District 1 seat will be on the regular ballot in this election for a 2-year term.
