Timeline

The following are key dates in the process to fill the District 3 vacancy on the Des Moines School Board:

November 5
Natasha Newcomb announces pending resignation effective December 31, 2018 

November 20
School Board discusses and reaches consensus on appointment process and timeline

November 21 – December 10
Letters of Interest and Resumes may be submitted by individuals interested in filling the vacancy

December 8
“How the School Board Works” workshop from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Central Campus Multi-Purpose Room (click here to register)

December 10
Noon deadline to submit Letters of Interest and Resumes

December 11
Regular School Board Meeting – Distribution of Applications to Board for review

December 13
School Board meets at 4:30 PM. at 2323 Grand Avenue to review and score applicants, and to discuss and determine top 3 candidates to interview

December 14
All applicants will be contacted regarding status by this date with at least 3 finalists invited to interview with the School Board

December 17
Public interviews of candidate finalists beginning at 5:30 PM in the Multi-Purpose Room at Central Campus. School Board will meet immediately following interviews to discuss and determine appointment.

December 21
Interviewed finalists notified by this date

December 31
Natasha Newcomb’s resignation from District 3 seat effective. 

January 8, 2019
Appointed District 3 member sworn in at Regular School Board Meeting

February 2, 2019
Full Board and Superintendent governance work session – full day (times TBD)

January 8 – November 19, 2019
Period of service for newly appointed District 3 School Board member

November 5, 2019
School Board Elections. The District 3 seat will be on the regular ballot in this election for a 4-year term.

November 19, 2019
Elected District 3 School Board member sworn in at regular meeting for new 4-year term.
