Dr. Skylar Mayberry-Mayes is the Executive Director of the Jacobson Institute at Grand View University, which serves as a resource in providing skills, training, and assessment for a future ready workforce. The Jacobson Institute was created to improve the education system through innovation, while equipping learners at all levels with the right skills to improve career outcomes.

He is also an adjunct instructor at the University of Northern Iowa’s Wilson College of Business – Professional Readiness Program. Previously Mayberry-Mayes worked in Community Relations and External Affairs for Principal Financial Group and Nationwide Insurance, respectively.

Mayberry-Mayes is active in the community and has served as a board member and/or volunteer with the DMPS Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Oakridge Neighborhood, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Investing In My Future, Inc.. He was named a Business Record 40 under 40, Nationwide Volunteer of the Year, and a Forbes Scholar.

He was appointed to the School Board in April 2024 to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Teree Caldwell-Johnson and will serve until the next election in November 2025.

Mayberry-Mayes holds a PhD in education from Drake University, an MBA in leadership from Iowa State University, and a BA in finance from the University of Northern Iowa.
