The Des Moines School Board has taken another important step in the work to select a new superintendent for Iowa’s largest school district, hiring JG Consulting to support the school board in the coordination and management of the search process.
“We are excited to have JG Consulting partner with us in this important work,” noted Teree Caldwell-Johnson, chair of the school board. “JG Consulting brings a range of experience working with large, diverse school districts to successfully complete this vital work.”
Founded in 2014, JG Consulting partners with schools, school boards, cities, and municipalities to lead executive-level searches, provide organizational support and transform the educational system for the better. Headquartered in Austin, TX, JG Consulting operates a full suite of search and professional development offerings to help school districts find, place and develop educational leaders who are prepared to make an impact.
“JG Consulting is honored to represent the Des Moines Public Schools as the School Board begins the Superintendent search process,” said James Guerra, the firm’s President and CEO. “The executive search firm is eager to serve DMPS and recruit talented candidates with exceptional track records of success.”
Eleven search firms from across the country responded to a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by the school district. After a review and recommendation by a subcommittee of the school board, four finalists were interviewed, and the full board met on Friday to approve the selection of JG Consulting.
“The quality of the submissions was exceptional, and the firms considered brought diverse talents and experiences needed to successfully manage the DMPS superintendent search process,” added Caldwell-Johnson.
Dr. Thomas Ahart announced his resignation as Superintendent of DMPS in February 2022. Matt Smith was named interim superintendent and will continue in that role throughout the 2022-23 school year. The School Board plans to have a new Superintendent named and in place by July 1, 2023.
