Congratulations to grapplers from East, Lincoln and North who have qualified for this week’s Iowa State Wrestling Tournament.

East High School was one of eight sites across Iowa to host Class 3A district wrestling tournaments, deciding qualifiers for the state meet. East hosted Ames, Ankeny Centennial, Indianola, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Pella and Southeast Polk at the district meet. East senior Brock Espalin, a three-time medalist at the state meet, qualified for a fourth and final trip to Wells Fargo Arena.

In addition, four wrestlers from Lincoln High School head to the state meet along with Aime Mukiza of the combined Hoover-North team, who is making his third trip to the tournament.

DMPS wrestlers who will be competing at the state meet are:

  • 113: Aime Mukiza, junior, North
  • 132: Brock Espalin, senior, East
  • 138: Leo Blawou, senior, Lincoln
  • 170: Mickey Griffith, sophomore, Lincoln
  • 220: Ramiro Gomez, senior, Lincoln
  • 285: Kyle Snowgren, senior, Lincoln
