Rotary Awards $48,000 in Scholarships to DMPS Students
For nearly four decades, the Rotary Club of Des Moines has awarded scholarships to seniors from each of the district’s high schools. The press release below from the Rotary Club announces this year’s recipients.

The Rotary Club of Des Moines will be awarding six area high school students $8,000 each at their weekly noon meeting, today at the Wakonda Club.
“I’m proud of our 39 year tradition of honoring students who exemplify what we Rotarians find so important – selfless leadership and commitment to service,” said Rotary Club of Des Moines President, Shawn Mullen.
This year’s Rotary Scholarship recipients are as follows:
- East High School – Jasmine Johnson
- Hoover High School – Tam Cao
- Lincoln High School – Blessing Hutchinson
- North High School – Raymond Abwe
- Roosevelt High School – Oanh Bui
- Scavo High School – Nou Vue
The Scholarship Awards are supported by the organization’s weekly tumbler program (member donations) and other Rotary Club of Des Moines Foundation funds. The selection process includes input from representatives at each of the six Des Moines Public High Schools as well as multiple interviews by the Rotary scholarship committee.
