Des Moines Public Schools announces the appointment of a new Director of Transportation. LaShone Mosley takes over for Donna Cooper, who served as interim director.

Mosley comes to DMPS from Naperville, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Benedictine University in Lisle, earning a place on the Dean’s list and graduating magna cum laude. Mosley honed her leadership skills as the assistant director of transportation for Naperville Community Unit School District 203. Before moving into an administrative role, Mosley worked as a bus driver for seven years, gaining valuable experience behind the wheel working directly with students and parents.

“I can relate to the drivers, the students, and I understand a parent’s perspective,” Mosley said. “I look forward to enhancing communication with families and growing a workplace where drivers are excited to come to work and serve our students.”

The DMPS Transportation Department employs 195 people who drive and maintain the school district’s busses, safely delivering 11,000 students each day to and from schools. They cover more than 1.6 million miles annually.

Mosley’s background working with a large district and her deep knowledge of busing were key in her selection, according to DMPS Chief of Operations Bill Good.

“We needed someone who could bring a fresh set of eyes and help the department grow,” Good said. “We are very fortunate LaShone Mosley decided to accept the challenge.”

Mosley began her new position as Director of Transportation on Monday, January 15.
