Thursday: 400 Voices at the Northside Night Concert

The North High School choir will be joined by elementary and middle school music students from the Northside of Des Moines for an evening of song on Thursday, March 5.

A Northside tradition is set to continue on this week.

More than 400 voices will join in song for the second annual Northside Night Vocal Music Concert.  Elementary school choirs from Findley, Oak Park, Cattell and Madison will join with choirs from Harding Middle School and North High School to present an evening of inspirational music.

Northside Night will take place:

Thursday, March 6th
7:00 PM
North High School Auditorium, 501 Holcomb Avenue
Admission is free to the public

Each individual choir will perform during the concert and then all groups will join together on stage for a mass choir performance. The mass choir will sing Stand Together by Jim Papoulis and I Can by Kirk Franklin, accompanied by North High’s Gospel Band.  I Can, a song about personal accomplishment and making a difference in the world, has been adopted as the Northside anthem!

Brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends from across the north side will have a chance to perform onstage together in this event celebrating Music in Our Schools Month. Family and community members are invited to join us in this wonderful tradition for Des Moines’ north side schools.

Vocal music educators and directors participating are:

  • Vanessa Brady, North High School
  • Amanda Stevenson, Harding Middle School
  • Nels Dovre, Madison Elementary
  • Dustin Harmsen, Oak Park Elementary
  • Stephanie Hein, Cattell Elementary
  • Jane Olson, Findley Elementary
