A Des Moines Public Schools bus driver suffered a medical emergency while on his route this morning. The driver, Arthur Lubbert, pulled the bus safely over and there were no injuries to any students.

Sadly, Mr. Lubbert was pronounced dead a short while later at a hospital.

“On behalf of his colleagues at the school district, our condolences go out to his family and friends,” said Superintendent Tom Ahart. “Art was a well-liked driver who put the well-being and safety of the students on his bus first, which was true to the very end.”

Mr. Lubbert was a driver for Des Moines Public Schools since 2005.

His morning route when the incident occurred today included students from East High School and Hiatt Middle School. His route also includes Carver Elementary School, Merrill Middle School, and Windsor Elementary School.
