Des Moines, IA—May 8, 2014— Keller Williams associates may be taking the day off on Thursday, May 8, 2014, but it will hardly be a day of rest. Associates with the Keller Williams Greater Des Moines market center (KWDSM) have chosen to “Give Where They Live” as part of RED Day, the company’s annual day of service, dedicated to renewing, energizing, and donating to their local communities.

As part of the RED Day effort, the KW Greater Des Moines market center has chosen to spend the day with Ruby Van Meter School, located at 710 28th Street in Des Moines, from 8:30am until 4pm on Thursday, May 8th.  Keller Williams’ Realtors® and market center staff will close their Clive office and spend the day volunteering at the school—sprucing up the exterior grounds, planting flowers, organizing the school’s library and several other jobs to help the school prepare for their upcoming student graduation. Keller Williams will also host a picnic for the school’s studentsand staff where they will serve lunch and teach the students a specially choreographed dance.

“RED Day is built on the belief that people can and should come together to achieve extraordinary things to help others,” said Team Leader Brian Wentz.  “Last year, our entire market center renovated a Des Moines home through the ReBuild Together program. We can’t tell you what an impact it made on each of us personally. We all know that filling all the gaps in our communities can’t be accomplished by serving just once a year. RED Day just happens to be the one-day expression of the constant state of the Keller Williams culture. We see a need, discover who can meet it and get it done.”

Ruby Van Meter School is one of the Des Moines Public Schools. It is a special school serving 155 students who have moderate and severe disabilities. While Intellectual Disabilities is the primary disability of students, many students have multiple disabilities and additional physical, social, emotional or health impairments.

Ruby Van Meter students and staff are incredibly grateful for the tremendous kindness and hard work of the Keller Williams group.  Their work on our grounds and landscaping will beautify our facilities just in time for graduation.  We are also appreciative of the work to be done inside the building, putting up bulletin boards, creating senior books, inventorying science equipment and organizing the library.  The students will enjoy being entertained and served lunch by the Keller Williams Group.

Since the first RED Day in 2009, Keller Williams associates have given almost a half million hours of community service through activities ranging from food and blood drives to cleaning up trash in public parks, revamping gardens at nursing homes and rebuilding homes and schools for community members in need. To this day, it is one of the largest events in the real estate industry.
