Qynne Kelly will be the next principal at Hoover High School.

Qynne Kelly will lead Hoover High School as principal beginning next month. Kelly replaces Sherry Poole, who is retiring this year.

Kelly brings a variety of experiences to this role. She began her career as a high school German teacher and an elementary school ELL teacher in Waterloo, Iowa. She arrived at DMPS in 2015 and worked as an Instructional Coach at Hiatt Middle School and Central Campus. She most recently served as Associate Principal at Lincoln and Roosevelt High Schools.

“Qynne Kelly has developed relationships with the students and families that she will serve,” said Associate Superintendent Matthew Smith. “She is a passionate leader of equity and instruction and will build on the many successes already established at Hoover.”

Kelly holds a Bachelor of Arts in German Education from the University of Wisconsin, a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Iowa State University.

“This is the community in which I reside and one that I care very deeply about,” said Kelly. “To Hoover students, teachers, parents/guardians & community members, I cannot wait to work in solidarity with you as we pursue a true school community in which every student has the opportunity to actualize their hopes & dreams.”

Kelly will begin work immediately following Board approval.
