Central Academy will hold an informational meeting about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for high school sophomore students and parents interested in learning more about the program. Applications are being taken from current sophomores who will begin the program at the start of the 2011-2012 school year. The meeting will be held:

The International Baccalaureate is an academically challenging and balanced program of education for juniors and seniors. Students who successfully complete the two-year program earn an internationally recognized IB Diploma in addition to their Iowa high school diploma.

Students interested in the IB complete an application and are interviewed their sophomore year. Students who undertake the program complete all of their IB coursework at Central Academy while retaining their home school affiliation for elective and extra-curricular participation.

Successful IB candidates are students who are self-motivated, enjoy intellectual and academic challenges, possess good time management skills, and have taken rigorous preparatory coursework.

“IB is well known to us for excellent preparations,” said Marilyn McGrath Lewis, Director of Admissions at Harvard University. “Success in an IB program correlates well with success at Harvard. We are always pleased to see the credentials of the IB Diploma Programme on the transcript.”
