Inclusion Revolution Continues at Unified Sports Day

Special Olympics Iowa hosted the 3rd annual Des Moines Public Schools Unified Sports Day yesterday at Drake University‘s Knapp Center. Earlier this year, DMPS and Special Olympics joined partnered to expand the Unified Champion Schools program throughout the district, giving high school students the opportunity to hone leadership skills by putting on the Unified Sports Day. More than 400 students participated in the event representing Brody, Callanan, Goodrell, Harding, Hiatt, Hoyt, McCombs, Meredith, Merrill and Weeks middles schools along with the Middle School Alternative Center and Ruby Van Meter school. Students participated in 3-on-3 basketball, bocce, golf, pass-punt-kick football, relay races, dance and more.
