Deaf Program Partakes in Taiko Workshop

To warm up, students held beach volleyballs or the other side of the drum to feel the vibrations. On Thursday DMPS students from the district’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing program work with San Jose Taiko at the Des Moines Civic Center as part of their workshop series. Then performers from SJT passed out drum sticks and led the students through different rhythms to play. Finally, through sign language interpreters, students were able to ask the group questions about their careers as percussionists.
