As Iowa’s largest provider of public education — with nearly 33,000 students and 5,000 employees — Des Moines Public Schools has the largest budget of any school district in the state, supporting the education of our children with more than $500 million annually.
The low rate of growth in Supplemental State Aid in recent years has meant significant cuts in funding for public schools. DMPS has worked hard to minimize the impact on classrooms while simultaneously holding the line on taxes.
