Whether you are planning to run for a seat on the Des Moines School Board this November or considering doing so at some point in the future, becoming informed about the work of the board is important to best serve the students, staff and entire community.

That is why the School Board is hosting a “preboarding” workshop. This event is an opportunity to share information on the work and responsibilities of a School Board, review major issues that come before the board, and answer questions about the work.

Please read the following for more information and how to RSVP to attend.

If you are planning to run or have an interest in being a candidate for the School Board, this opportunity is for you. This workshop was created to give potential Des Moines School Board members insight and information into the role and responsibilities of the board.

In this free workshop you will learn about the school board’s work on issues ranging from approving the budget to improving student achievement, and how that relates both to the roles of district teachers and staff as well as connects to our community. The schedule for the workshop is as follows:

9:00 – 9:20 Welcome & Introductions
9:20 – 11:30 Overview of Student Outcome Focused Governance: AJ Crabill
11:30 – 12:15 Lunch/Panel Discussion
