Everything you see and hear from Des Moines Public Schools originated with a small team of communications experts collaborating with district and school staff to clearly and concisely share the activities and developments within our school district of 31,000 students and nearly 5,000 employees. DMPS won several statewide Iowa School Public Relations Association awards this month for outstanding communications work.

The Des Moines Public Schools communications staff includes Phil Roeder, Director of Communications and Public Affairs; Amanda Lewis, Communications Officer; Adam Rohwer, Website and Graphic Design; Kyle Knicley, Videographer; and Jonathan Lemons, Photographer. Lewis is in her second year serving on the ISPRA Board of Directors as president.

“Our mission is to effectively communicate with all stakeholders in our school district, providing timely and relevant information that keeps everyone informed and engaged in the success of our students,” said Roeder. “It’s an honor to receive these awards from ISPRA as we continually improve and expand our communications efforts to better serve our community.”

This year, ISPRA honored the team with multiple statewide awards for their work. While we would love to enter into the Communications Contest all of the work at DMPS, the team regularly wins awards for every entry submitted to ISPRA. Below we share a list of categories and links to the 2023 award winning pieces:
