Monroe Elementary School was the site where a new health program was launched. Representatives of the Iowa Wild – the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild – and Amerigroup partnered to kick off Healthy Choices, Healthy Life, a community effort to promote good living for children and adults. Students at Monroe will receive game tickets for completing tasks as part of the program. Below is a press release from the Iowa Wild and Amerigroup.

IOWA WILD, AMERIGROUP INTRODUCE ‘HEALTHY CHOICES, HEALTHY LIFE’ PROGRAM

Iowa Wild announced today the inception of a new program with Amerigroup called “Healthy Choices, Healthy Life” where the two organizations promote healthy living and healthy choices for children and adults alike.

“We are thrilled to partner once again with Amerigroup for a health and wellness initiative in our community,” said Eric Grundfast, Vice President of Sales with Iowa Wild. “Our floor hockey program has been very successful and we hope to see the same accomplishments with ‘Healthy Choices, Healthy Life.’ Healthy living is extremely important both on the ice and in everyday life and partnering with Amerigroup will allow us to preach that message across Central Iowa.”

The first “Healthy Choices, Healthy Life” event was held at Monroe Elementary School on Dec. 12, where defenseman Hunter Warner and Strength and Conditioning Coach John Odgers met with more than 80 students to give tips and tricks to staying healthy, demonstrating the importance of making healthy choices, and even taught students how to create healthy eating habits and how to track physical exercise. Given a booklet at the event, if a child completes their healthy choice table, they can redeem a free Iowa Wild ticket for a Sunday-Thursday game.

“If kids don’t have access to nutritious food and opportunities for physical exercise, they will struggle to do their best in the classroom,” said Jeff Jones, President of Amerigroup Iowa. “Amerigroup is focused on the health of the whole person, and that includes helping people live healthy and active lifestyles. Healthy habits are learned at a young age, and that’s why we’re so pleased to join with the Iowa Wild on this initiative designed to make Iowa kids healthier.”
