The annual Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase is coming up on Monday, June 3 at 7:00 PM at the Des Moines Civic Center, and four DMPS high schools – East, Hoover, Lincoln and Roosevelt – will perform at the event.

Seventy-seven schools from around the state participated this year and DMPS again is well-represented among the standouts.

Roosevelt’s production of Disney’s The Lion King Experience is one of four recognized for Outstanding Overall Performance and East’s RENT was among eight chosen for Outstanding Overall Technical and Creative Achievement.

Roosevelt’s Pierce Mansfield garnered two citations for Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role, both as Gomez in The Addams Family and as Scar in The Lion King. Four performers in East’s production of RENT – Albert Jones, Rachel Reidburn, Tanner Tillotson, and Antonesia Williams – also earned Oustanding Performance honors as did Annika Baker and Sage Johnson in Hoover’s production of Freaky Friday.
