DMPS director of communications Phil Roeder is presented with a Hashie Award by Caroline Jones of the Social Media Club of Des Moines.

In April of 2011, Des Moines Public Schools created a Twitter page.

Since then the school district has expanded its online presence to multiple social media platforms that connect with tens of thousands of people in the community. In addition, many DMPS schools along with teachers, teams, clubs and more are also active online.

As a result, the Social Media Club of Des Moines presented DMPS with its first ever Trailblazer Award in recognition of the school district’s leadership in using social media to engage with the community. The award was presented at the annual Hashie Awards ceremony.

In addition, DMPS was presented with a Hashie Award for the best blog, which serves as the foundation for much of the news and information shared by DMPS on its web site, weekly e-newsletter, mobile app, and social media.

“We work hard to make the school district accessible in many different ways on many different platforms so that parents and the community are aware of news and information about DMPS as well as stories about the good work of our students and staff,” said Phil Roeder, director of communications for Des Moines Public Schools.

As the new school year gets underway, be sure to connect with DMPS on any or all of its social media sites, including Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. In addition, you can see the good work of our students and teachers on Flickr, Instagram and YouTube.
