Kennedy Center Comes to Cattell – DMPS-TV News

Randy Barron of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is working with students and teachers at the Turnaround Arts cohort of schools in the North High feeder pattern thanks to a partnership between DMPS and Des Moines Performing Arts called One By One: Laying a Foundation of Learning Through the Arts.

Barron has danced and choreographed professionally since 1978 with ballet and modern dance companies across the United States. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Psychology and has been a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist since 1995.

Artistic residencies are going on at Cattell, Madison, Oak Park, Findley and Harding throughout April. The culmination of the project will be an opportunity for hundreds of DMPS 5th and 6th graders to attend a special performance of the smash Disney musical The Lion King next month at the Des Moines Civic Center.
