Abraham Lincoln High School was selected to host a National AVID Showcase Day. They are the only school in the State of Iowa who was awarded this distinction.

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a global nonprofit organization that operates with one guiding principle: Hold students accountable to the highest standards, provide academic and social support, and they will rise to the challenge.

Guests visited several AVID elective classes as well as core content classes who are using AVID strategies to increase classroom engagement and rigor.

The AVID program has been in place at Lincoln High School for four years, serving students in the academic middle who are traditionally underrepresented in four year universities. During that time, the program has grown to support 250 students in the intensive AVID elective class in grades 9-12. In addition, there are 42 trained staff members utilizing AVID strategies in reading, writing, collaboration, organization and inquiry school-wide in all disciplines, impacting our entire student population. Currently, 22 senior students have been accepted to one or more four year universities with individual scholarship offerings of up to $160,000 for a four year program. This number continues to grow each day.
