Edmunds Elementary School Celebrates Groundbreaking on Friday

Edmunds Elementary School will celebrate the soon-to-begin construction of their new school with a ceremonial groundbreaking on Friday, May 25.

The new Edmunds school will be built to the north of the existing school, located on the edge of downtown Des Moines in the historic Sherman Hills neighborhood. Construction is slated to begin the week of June 4 and be completed in August 2013 in time for the 2013-14 school year.

The school, which has a construction budget of $10.25 million, will be the first brand new school built in Des Moines since George Washington Carver Community School opened in 2007.

The groundbreaking will be held:

(In the event of bad weather, the groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the same time and location on Tuesday, May 29)

The ceremony will be held outside to the north of the existing school. There will be a brief program, attended by the student body, followed by the groundbreaking.
