Des Moines’ Newest School Board Member to be Sworn In

The Des Moines Public Schools Board of Directors will swear in their newest school board member, Felipe Gallardo, next week. He will be sworn in:

Monday, Nov. 22
5:30 p.m.
DMPS Administration Office
901 Walnut St. — Room 6A

The school board had 30 days to appoint a new member to serve until the next school board election on Sept. 13, 2011. Board member Margaret Buckton resigned from the board Nov. 1, 2010, due to a potential future conflict of interest.

Gallardo was selected from a pool of 15 individuals who submitted resumes to fill the school board seat. He ran for the board in 2009 and had the next highest number of votes following Buckton. He is currently employed by the Central Iowa Re-engagement Center as a Re-engagement Specialist.

“Felipe’s experience working with young adults and his involvement in the community and in our schools will make him a welcomed addition to our school board,” said Connie Boesen, school board chair.
