42 DMPS Students Earn Top Marks at State Speech Contest
Forty-two students from all five comprehensive high schools in Des Moines earned superior ratings at the 2013 Iowa High School State Speech Association’s state individual speech contest held in Nevada, Iowa on March 9, 2013.
In addition, seven of those students were selected to advance to the All-State Individual Speech Festival at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls on March 25, 2013. A total of 9,000 speech students participated in the 2013 district level contest. Out of those 9,000, only 464 students were selected for All-State competition.
Participating in All-State Speech will be Jake Biegger (East), Murphy Burke (Roosevelt – qualified in two events), Jack Chasse (Roosevelt), Fatima Fadel (East), Integrity Narcisse (Roosevelt), Cianna Rothwell (Roosevelt) and Leah Waughtal (North).
