_MG_0092

On July 11, learn more about the working of a School Board and how to be an effective Board member.

Interested in this year’s School Board election? Considering a campaign for the School Board in the future? Or just curious about how the School Board works?

The Des Moines School Board is hosting a workshop on Saturday, July 11 to share information and answer questions about their work.

Please read the following for more information as well as register to attend this event.

WHO
If you have ever wanted to learn more about improving student achievement, had an interest in being a candidate for the School Board, or simply wanted to know more about being an advocate for children in our community, this opportunity is for you. This workshop was created for anyone who is committed to our students’ educational achievement and who lives, works, or worships in the Des Moines Public Schools area.

WHAT
In this free workshop you will learn about:

  • what it means to be serious about getting results for students
  • how board members contribute to results for students
  • what is expected of board members

Guest speakers will include current DMPS board members as well as other community leaders.

WHEN
Saturday, July 11, 9am – 3pm (lunch will be provided)

WHERE
Central Campus, 1800 Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50309

WHY
As Des Moines residents, you own the public schools and the school board works for YOU. Therefore, the school board should routinely share how it governs on your behalf. In addition, on September 8, our community will elect four school board members. DMPS students deserve board members who are serious about getting results for students, who understand how board members contribute to results for students, who understand what is expected of board members, and who are excited to be a member of the governance team. This workshop will address these important issues and will prepare potential candidates to be ready immediately upon election.
