As a public body, Des Moines Public Schools is committed to openness and transparency, and follows the provisions of both federal law and the Code of Iowa in making records available to the public.

Anyone may make a public records request in Iowa. Factors that have no consideration in the district’s response to a public records request includes who is asking; how the information will be used; and whether the requestor cites state or federal open records laws.

The links in the right-hand menu on this page provide information on how to search for and request public records, what is and is not a public record when it comes to students and employees, whether or not costs are involved with requests, the amount of time to respond to requests, and a log of public records requests made to Des Moines Public Schools.
