Workshop: How the Board Works

Wanting to learn more about the work of the Des Moines School Board? This event is for you.

Interested in the current vacancy on the School Board? Considering a campaign for the School Board in the future? Or just curious about how the School Board works?

The Des Moines School Board is hosting a workshop on Saturday, February 14 to share information and answer questions about their work. Please read the following for more information as well as register to attend this event.

If you have ever wanted to learn more about improving student achievement, had an interest in being a candidate for appointment or election to the school board, or simply wanted to know more about being an
advocate for children in our community, this opportunity is for you. This workshop was created for anyone who is committed to our students’ educational achievement and who lives or works in the Des Moines Public Schools area.

In this free workshop you will learn about the school board’s role in improving student achievement, and how that relates to the community’s and the district employees’ roles. Guest speakers will include current DMPS board members as well as other elected officials from the Des Moines metro.

Saturday, February 14th, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (lunch will be provided)

As Des Moines residents, you own the public schools and the School Board works for YOU. Therefore, the Board should routinely share how it governs on your behalf. In addition, the District Two seat, vacated
by Touissant Cheatom who resigned for health reasons, will be filled on March 3rd. Participation in this workshop will be a consideration in the board’s decision on who to appoint.
