The following are key dates in the process to fill the District 1 vacancy on the Des Moines School Board:

March 5
Teree Caldwll-Johnson’s resignation from District 4 seat effective

March 8-25
Letters of Interest and Resumes may be submitted by individuals interested in filling the vacancy

March 23
“How the School Board Works” virtual workshop – 1:00 – 3:00 PM
To register for the workshop, please contact Rosie Rios at rosa.rios@dmschools.org

March 25
NOON: deadline to submit Letters of Interest and Resumes

March 25-29
School Board reviews applications and scores applicants

March 29
All applicants will be contacted regarding status by this date with at least 5 finalists invited to interview with the School Board

Finalists will receive Interview Questions

April 3-4
Public interviews of candidate finalists beginning at 5:00-8:00 PM in the Multi-Purpose Room at Central Campus

April 4
School Board Work Session to discuss and determine appointment

Interviewed finalists notified by this date

April 16
Appointed District 4 member sworn in at a Special School Board meeting (regular board meeting to follow)

April 16, 2024, – November 18, 2025
Period of service for newly appointed District 4 School Board member

November 4, 2025
