Hoyt’s Randy Bakker: Goodwill Achiever of the Year

Thanks to Goodwill Industries for

Thanks to Goodwill Industries for Hoyt cafeteria work Randy Bakker as the Goodwill Achiever of the Year.

Congratulations to Hoyt Middle School cafeteria worker Randy Bakker on his selection as the Goodwill Achiever of the Year!

Randy was born with a condition called hydrocephalus which puts pressure on his optic nerve and renders him functionally blind. After enrolling in a job skills training program at Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa he started working at Hoyt this year. His supervisor there, Tina Lawrence, says Randy has been an inspirational addition to the staff.

“Randy has changed the way many of us look at our jobs,” said Lawrence. “He always has a smile on his face.”

The Goodwill Achiever of the Year Award is presented annually to someone who makes great progress in overcoming obstacles to employment. In so doing Randy Bakker is not only an inspiration to his coworkers but a good example for our students as well.
